How to measure yourself for a tailored suit

Good tailoring starts with good measurements. Even a small error at the chest or shoulder can change how a coat sits. Use a soft measuring tape, wear a fitted shirt and ask someone to help you.

The measurements that matter most

  1. Chest: wrap the tape around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms.
  2. Waist: measure where you normally wear your trousers.
  3. Shoulder: measure from one shoulder point to the other across the back.
  4. Sleeve: from the shoulder point down to the wrist bone with the arm relaxed.
  5. Coat length: from the base of the collar to where you want the coat to end.
  6. Trouser length: from the waist down to the ankle or the shoe heel.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Pulling the tape too tight — keep one finger of space.
  • Measuring over a thick sweater or jacket.
  • Standing stiffly or holding your breath.
  • Rounding numbers carelessly — write down the exact reading.

Not sure about your numbers? Book a home measurement visit and our tailor will measure you at your doorstep.

Should I measure in inches or centimetres?

Either works — just stay consistent and mention the unit when you share your measurements.
